The sighting of and declaration of the new moon, as well as the celebration of the new moon inside the Holy Temple and out, constitutes a very intimate aspect of G-d’s relationship with Israel.

The holy Sukkahs  that we build on our terraces and in our backyards each year are nothing more and nothing less than a temporary Holy Temple, filled with the light of the ein sof  – the infinite light. This same light which fills our Sukkah  was expressed during the seven days of Sukkot in the Holy Temple through the joyful music of the Water Libation Celebration, and the exuberant spontaneity of the music inspired prophecy among those who heard it.

Each day a single kohen was chosen in the dawn lottery to perform all the many tasks involved in conducting the daily Tamid offering.

Much work had to be done each morning to clear away yesterday’s ashes from the altar and to refresh the fire. It was the responsibility of the single kohen who was chosen in the dawn lottery to perform all these tasks.

On the Morning of Tish’a b’Av, 5771/August 9, 2011, Rabbi Chaim Richman & Yitzchak Reuven ascended the holy Temple Mount together with hundreds of fellow Jews, to make a clear statement on this spiritually powerful day, on which both Holy Temples were destroyed. The entire morning was spent on the Mount. Following is a short teachng from the Mount.

From the days of the spies, the month of Tammuz has been one of harsh judgement for Israel. But Tammuz is not fated to be so for ever. By speaking well of the land of Israel and increasing our appreciation and intensifying our love for the land – right now – in the month of Tammuz, we can begin to turn Tammuz from a bitter month to a sweet month.

The Levitical orchestra didn’t simply provide pleasant background accompaniment for the Temple offerings. The music was an integral spiritual aspect of the service of the offerings, designed to awaken within the worshipper true feelings of repentance. Second in a series.

The Daily (Tamid ) Offering is so central to Israel’s relationship with G-d that the daily prayer service of the past two thousand years is based upon the structure and purpose of the Daily Offering. But how did the Daily Offering actually take place in the Holy Temple?

Israel has never lost sight of our obligation to renew the Divine service at the nearest possible opportunity, and throughout the millennia a number of Israel’s greatest sages have striven to create conditions in which Temple offerings could be made. Today a growing number of scholars and spiritual leaders are calling for the immediate renewal of the offerings, beginning with the Korban Pesach – the Passover offering.

The pilgrimage experience combined a sublime sense of expectation with an all-embracing feeling of total trust in HaShem, as Temple-goers left their farms and fields and made their way to Jerusalem and the Holy Temple. The festival of Shavuot, which celebrates the land of Israel and commemorates the receiving of Torah at Sinai epitomizes the total pilgrimage experience.
