Light to the Nations

Light to the Nations – with Rabbi Chaim Richman of The Temple Institute.

Weekly series with new teachings available every Thursday.

The great illumination of ‘instant’ freedom that we experience on the Seder night so often seems to pass us by. Slaves yesterday, free men today, we simply haven’t the vessels to be able to absorb the great chesed — loving kindness — and enlightenment that G-d had blessed us with. For this we have Sefirat HaOmer – the counting of the days of the Omer, that prepares us gradually for the great re-illumination of G-d’s light — receiving Torah on Mount Sinai.

The glorious month of Nissan, the first of months and the month of firsts. From the moment that G-d commanded the children of Israel, while still in Egypt, to reckon Nissan as the first of the months, to the following year, when, on the first of Nissan, the Tabernacle was sanctified and the Divine service begun, signifying the perfection of
G-d’s will, and the fulfillment of His reason for creation, Nissan has come to be known as the month of months.

For many years it has been the custom of Rabbi Dr. Moshe Dovid Tendler, famed posek, professor, and son-in-law of the great Rabbi Moshe Feinstein, זצ’ל to perform the commandment of “Mora Mikdash” – showing reverence to G-d at the place of the Holy Temple, by ascending the Temple Mount in strict accordance with halacha – Jewish law.

The Rabbi ascends the Mount every time he is in the land of Israel. He has made tens of visits to the Temple Mount.

The following visit was filmed on the 23rd of Tevet, 5769 – January 19th, 2009.

Maimonides’ Laws of the Chosen House, chapter 7: All of the vessels to be used in the Holy Temple are considered to be part and parcel of the Holy Temple itself. Therefore, creating any vessel for use in the Divine service is considered to be an aspect of building the Holy Temple.

Brought Back by Popular Demand:

Rabbi Richman lets down his hair, and everything seems a little upside-down in this week’s Light to the Nations special teaching. Why is Purim the only normal day of the year? How does the Purim feast transport us to the sublime spiritual level of the world to come? How does the celebration of Purim, replete with food, drink and merriment lead to true joy and make tangible the words of Zachariah: “In that day shall the L-rd be One and his name one.” The Rabbi has the answers to all these questions, and much, much more…
