Temple Talk is a weekly internet radio webcast with Rabbi Chaim Richman and Yitzchak Reuven of the Temple Institute.
This week features:
Growing up Yaakov: Living (and Learning) in the Material World
Yaakov Lays His Head on the Crossroads Where Heaven Meets Earth & Man Meets G-d
With Rabbi Chaim Richman on a speaking tour in the USA Yitzchak has the microphone all to himself. For 2500 years the Ethiopian Jews were in exile and isolation, but the same dream that Yaakov had of Jerusalem and the Holy Temple carried them through the exile and back to the city of their longings.
When Yaakov made his vow to G-d at Beit El, he made it in the name of all his descendants forever. Building a Holy Temple and giving to G-d a tenth of all that we are and all that we possess, is an obligation that we cannot delay.

Two Nations in Your Womb: Perpetual Struggle of Yaakov and Esav
Esav, the Prisoner Release and the Celebration of Murder
The Struggle begins! Who will lead the world and who will be responsible? Esau, the materialist, fatalist man of short term vision and momentary glory, who works to subjugate the heavens to the earth, and life to death, versus Yaakov, the man of the spirit and vision, the eternal, immortal man who works to elevate the earth toward the heavens, infusing life and meaning into our thoughts and deeds. The conflict rages on today as Israel battles the Esauvian forces of death, destruction and deception which are dancing all around her. The newest battleground is the oldest: The Temple Mount! The lines have been drawn: Whose side are you on?

Mountain, Field, House: Changing Perception of the Temple Mount
Hebron and the Jewish People’s Eternal Connection to the Land of Israel
In this week’s Torah portion of Chayei Sarah, the patriarch Avraham acquires the “Double Cave” of Machpela as a burial place for his beloved wife Sarah. Our sages teach us that Avraham’s connection to this place goes all the way back to Adam, the first man… and the road leads straight to the Garden of Eden. This week, Jews from all over the world will converge on the holy Biblical city of Hebron, in celebration of the patriarchs’ city. What is the secret of our ancient connection to Hebron? Why did Abraham insist on acquiring the Cave of Machpela? And why does the Torah record the deed of sale? This week’s Temple Talk finds Yitzchak Reuven and Rabbi Richman in deep introspection on the secrets of Avraham’s relationship with this most ancient point of connection… and what this means for our generation of Jews in the Land of Israel.
Plus: Avraham saw it as a mountain, Yitzchak as a field, and Yaakov as a house… and even as we speak, our perception of the Temple Mountain is constantly shifting and re-defining itself, as the people of Israel move ever closer to building the “house of prayer for all nations.”

This is How it Starts: Daring to Pray on the Temple Mount
Abraham, Rachel, and the future Temple: Fulfilling the Destiny of MarCheshvan
Just as we settle down into the “colorless” month of MarCheshvan, a month devoid of major observances, we are reminded of the courage, fortitude and selflessness of our matriarch Rachel, as the anniversary of her passing is observed this week, on the 11th day of the month. As we have learned, tradition relates that this month will ultimately host the dedication ceremony of the future Holy Temple. From what we have experienced so far this month, that can’t be too far off… as Rachel’s children have demonstrated that same courage, fortitude and selflessness, daring to challenge draconian police practices and pray publicly on the Temple Mount. And simultaneously, this month proves to be anything but dull, as we continue our weekly Torah readings in the book of Genesis and learn about the nature and mission of our patriarch Avraham, who takes on the whole world, bequeathing his spiritual and moral sensitivity and responsibility to his descendants for all time. Join Yitzchak Reuven and Rabbi Richman for this week’s rousing edition of Temple Talk, and hear how this year, MarCheshvan has already proven itself to be a Temple-rebuilding adventure in the making!

Abraham, the European Ban and the Secret of Circumcision
Celebrating the Anniversary of Maimonides’ Historic Visit to the Temple Mount
“Who inspired the one from east?” asks the prophet Isaiah rhetorically in this week’s haftorah reading. He is referring, of course, to our patriarch Abraham, the first of the true believers and the “friend of G-d,” who literally bursts upon the world scene in this week’s Torah portion of Lech Lecha. This week’s Temple Talk focuses on the unique mission of Abraham, the first Jew, who bequeathed a legacy of counter-culture activism and spiritual revolution to his descendants, and taught the world that Hashem is One. Yitzchak Reuven and Rabbi Richman also discuss the significance of the 6th day of MarCheshvan, this week’s 848th anniversary of the famed Rambam’s historic, life-threatening ascent to the Temple Mount. Just who was Maimonides and why did he risk his life to travel to Jerusalem and visit the Temple Mount? Why did he take measures to insure that his descendants observe this day, till the end of time? Tune into a fascinating, inspirational and educational edition of Temple Talk!

The Profound Joy of the Sukkot Experience: First Day of the Rest of our Lives
Yom Kippur is behind us, and the challenges of a brand-new year are before us. In this gala Sukkot edition of Temple Talk, Yitzchak Reuven and Rabbi Richman connect the dots between the Days of Awe and the week-long festival of Sukkot, G-d’s own confirmation of His forgiveness and eternal love for Israel. Our hosts are ready to escape into the sukkah, closest experience in our time to being in the Holy Temple itself. But over the Sukkot holiday, Yitzchak and the rabbi indeed intend on helping others to relive the pilgrimage to the Holy Temple! Tune into this week’s Temple Talk as our hosts discuss just why Sukkot is called by the Torah “the time of our joy.” We wish all our listeners Chag Sameach, a joyous festival of Sukkot. The next edition of Temple Talk will air after the festival, on 27 Tishrei, Tues. Oct. 4th, G-d willing.
