Bat Melech teachings appear every second Wednesday.
Next Show: To Be Announced

The Well of Miriam
Rachav  welcomed and conspired with the Israelite spies who were sent by Yehoshua  to discover and report on the strengths and weaknesses of the city of Yericho. But why did they choose her residence to serve as the locale of their first foray into the land of Israel? Why did Rachav  willingly offer her cooperation in the demise of her own people? This teaching was first shared and recorded in Texas, June 2012.

Biblical Faith – with Shmuel “Sam” Peak

A wise man once said: “The more one knows about G-d, the more one is perplexed about His nature.” Another said: “The man with the most profound understanding of the Creator is the one who least understands the true nature of the essence of His glory; but the man who does not understand Him thinks he understands the essence of His glory.”
A wise man was once asked about the Creator: “What is He?”
“G-d is One,” he answered.
“What is He like?” was the next question.
“He is a great King.”
“And where is He?”
“On the watch.”
“That is not what I was asking about!” objected the questioner.
The wise man then said to him: “You have questioned me in language that suggests attributes applicable to the created, but inapplicable to the Creator. The attributes that should be affirmed of our Creator, May He be exalted, are those which I have mentioned to you, for otherwise it would be impossible for us to know Him.”

Avraham avinu  traveled far into his own being in order to discover the Source and Supreme Guide of all creation, but the relationship he forged with G-d and the role he assumed for himself as citizen of G-d’s domain was firmly based in this world and firmly founded on the principle of personal responsibility.

This week features:

Abraham’s Inward Journey: Proving the Existence of G-d

Enter Abraham, Citizen of the World and Father of All Spiritual Seekers

Rambam goes to the Temple Mount
One week into the elusive month of Mar Cheshvan  already finds us celebrating two “minor” events with major implications: The first is the 837th anniversary of the famed sage Maimonides’ ascent to the Temple Mount in the face of grave danger to pray there, on the 6th of Cheshvan  1165. The second is the changing of our daily prayers into “winter mode” here in the Land of Israel, which takes place on 7 Cheshvan, when we begin to ask G-d for rain. In this week’s edition of Temple Talk, Yitzchak Reuven and Rabbi Richman explore these events and their modern-day implications, even as this week’s Torah reading of parashat Lech Lecha  introduces the daring iconoclast Avram, soon to become Avraham, onto the scene of world history. He found out that all the truth were lies, and went on to discover that there is really only One G-d. Mankind would never be the same again.

Our perception of existing things take place in one of three ways: (1) through the physical senses; sight, hearing, taste, smell , touch; (2) through the intellect, by bringing proofs about an existing thing from its indications and actions, until the true nature of its existence and essences is confirmed by what is apprehended through the senses. This is what is called in Scripture “knowledge” and “intellectual discipline”; and (3) through a truthful and reliable tradition.
Since it is impossible to perceive the Creator through the senses, the only way we can perceive Him is through truthful tradition or through proofs of Him that are drawn from evidence of His works.

The first lesson we are taught by Torah concerning the ten generation epoch spanning from Adam to Noach is that man’s behavior toward his fellow man has a direct and powerful effect on the natural world around him. Proper human conduct is a prerequisite for any effective environmental activism to succeed in preserving the magnificent ecosystem that G-d has blessed us with. A civilization that loses its moral compass will come crashing down, and take the natural world with it. A cautionary tale.
