The Intent of the heart and the mind; when one is occupied in mind and body with one of the means of earning a living, let one’s intent to be fulfilled the commandments of the Creator, Who has commanded man to engage in worldly means such as working the soil, plowing and sowing it, as it is written: “HaShem, G-d, took the man and placed him in the garden of Eden, to work it and to keep it” (Bereshit 2:15); [Who has commanded man] to make use of the other living creatures for one benefit and sustenance; to build cities and prepare foods; to marry, be fruitful and multiply.

One will be rewarded for the intent of the heart and mind to perform these for HaShem’s sake, whether or not one carries out their desire, as it is written: “You will eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you will be happy and it will be well with you” (Tehillim 128:2).

Temple Talk is a weekly internet radio webcast with Rabbi Chaim Richman and Yitzchak Reuven of the Temple Institute.

This week features:

Mourning and Gladness in the Month of Av

Locked Out of the Temple Mount on Tisha B’Av: This is Why We Mourn

Mount closed to Jews

This especially poignant, heartfelt and unforgettable edition of Temple Talk was recorded on the morning of Tisha B’Av, just hours after Yitzchak Reuven and Rabbi Chaim Richman, together with hundreds of other Jews, were denied the right to ascend the Temple Mount on this most significant day. Our hosts, in the midst of their fasting, share their feelings and insights – ranging from hurt and frustration, to consolation and hope… an expression of the very fabric of the Jewish experience, quintessentially conveyed by the month of Av. Joining them in the studio is Mrs. Rena Richman, who shares her thoughts about today’s experience at the gates of the Temple Mount.

Moshe, in his farewell address to Israel which comprises the entirety of the book of Deuteronomy, opens with words of rebuke. Determined to instruct and not to hurt his beloved people, Moshe  “sweetens” his words of reproach with love and tenderness. As we approach the fateful 9th of Av  we are sorely in need of sweet reproof as the call for us to rise up and rebuild the Holy Temple is greater now than ever.

We witness no sweeter reproof than that delivered by our own children in the short video we have prepared for these days: The Children Are Ready II: Be sure to watch it!

This week features:

The Sabbath of Vision and the Sweet Rebuke of Moshe Rabbeinu

Exclusive Sneak Peek Behind the Story and Filming of “The Children are Ready”

Child is Father to the Man

In the midst of the heat of the month of Menachem Av, as the solemn day of Tisha B’Av  draws near, this week we begin to read the book of Devarim. Moshe Rabbeinu  gathers the entire nation of Israel and begins to review the entire Torah for them, a task that will take up the last 5 weeks of his life. But he begins his words in this week’s Torah portion with a “coded” rebuke. Why the code? Yitzchak Reuven and Rabbi Richman discuss the concept of rebuke and how it might be applied to our generation on this week’s Temple Talk. This Shabbat is also called “The Sabbath of Vision,” since everyone receives a “vision” of the rebuilt Holy Temple. But can we see clearly, or does smoke get in our eyes? This program also features an extensive, behind-the-scenes look at the production of the Temple Institute’s new video, “Tisha B’Av 2013: The Children are Ready II.” This week’s edition of Temple Talk is an experience you will not want to miss!

As to HaShem’s favor bestowed on a wicked man — this sometimes happens on account of a previous good deed, for which HaShem rewards him in this world, as it says: “He repays His enemies to their face to destroy them” (Devarim 7:10), which the Early Ones rendered in the Targum as follows: “He repays His enemies during their lifetime [for] the good that they have done before Him, [so as ultimately] to destroy them.”

Sometimes wealth is placed in his charge like a deposit, until HaShem, may He be exalted, gives him a righteous son who is worthy of it, says: “He prepares it, but the righteous man will wear it” (Iyov 27:17); “But to the sinner He gives the work of gathering and amassing, to hand over to one who is good before HaShem” (Koheles 2:26).

The Children Are Ready II

On Tisha B’Av, the Jewish people mourn the destruction of the Holy Temple. Seated on the floor as mourners, the adults in the synagogue recite the traditional kinnot dirges. But is the goal simply the continuation of the mourning, for the sake of mourning? The children have a different idea of what needs to be done… Please watch and share!

This is a sequel to last year’s viral video The Children are Ready with over 400,000 views.

The Temple Institute thanks all the wonderful children and adults who helped to create this video!

Temple Talk is a weekly internet radio webcast with Rabbi Chaim Richman and Yitzchak Reuven of the Temple Institute.

This week features:

The Grass is Always Greener on the Other Side of the Jordan

Things Better Left Unsaid Dept.: The Unmentionable Innuendo of John Kerry

The Children are Ready

Got Flocks? In this week’s concluding Torah portions, Reuven, Gad, and half of Menashe  have plenty of livestock, and are envious of the green grass in the Transjordan. Their flocks take precedence over their children. But their worldview was based on misplaced priorities. This week’s Temple Talk takes umbrage with these tribes’ spiritual heirs – those who place their material possessions over the fate of their children. Yitzhak Reuven and Rabbi Richman deliver a passionate overview of our generation’s entrance into the Land of Israel. Plus: John Kerry, wherefore art thou?  While we appreciate your hairdo, have you noticed that the world is crumbling into an abyss of decadence and destruction? Yet as always, Israel remains the intransigent troublemaker.

Plus: Stay tuned for the world premiere of the Temple Institute’s all new video production, “The Children are Ready – Tisha b’Av 5773” which will be available for viewing on Sunday, July 7th. A sequel to last year’s highly successful “The Children are Ready” which has over 400,000 views, this year’s Tisha b’Av  video message is even more amazing!
