Parashat Teruma & the Holy Temple Today: The Ultimate Litmus Test
“And They Shall Make For Me a Sanctuary:” G-d Asks For a Place in This World
Parashat Teruma! It is the raison d’etre for everything that we do at the Temple Institute. “And you shall make for Me a Sanctuary” is G-d’s desire… that we let Him in to this world. Rabbi Richman, just back from his never ending journey throughout the great United States, and stranded for four days in the snows of New Jersey, now reunited with his best friend Yitzchak Reuven, shares his experiences and reflects upon the “Temple Conundrum:” Who is the Holy Temple for, anyway? So many people think it is either problematic, archaic, dangerous, or inconvenient. But those opinions are…. opinions. Whatever happened to doing something for G-d? Remember Him? As Rashi so eloquently states: “For My Name’s sake… “

An Altar of Earth – The Measure of Man and an Approach to G-d
Eternal Message of Freedom – What it Means and How to Preserve It
We go from the soaring heights of Mount Sinai to the roll-up-your-sleeves nitty-gritty of learning and applying Torah laws and lessons to our everyday lives. Living in the absolute presence of G-d that prevailed at the Sinai revelation is not something that we human beings are capable of sustaining or surviving. But we can and must treat one another in such a way that G-d will desire that His presence will dwell among us. The Torah reading of Mishpatim teaches us how to live peacefully with one another. Only when that lesson has been learned can we turn our collective hearts and efforts to the grandest of plans which lays in store: the building of a Sanctuary for G-d here on earth. Also, a short history of freedom, from Sinai to Avraham “Yair” Stern, whose yartzheit is this coming Sunday, (25 Shvat).

Tu B’Shevat – The New Year for Trees and the Re-stirring of Our Souls and of Israel’s Destiny
Yitro, the High Priest of Midian and father -in-law of Moshe is a living guide to the spiritual searcher in all of us. Leaving behind a lifetime of misconceptions, sacrificing status and comfort, risking social and family ties, and tossing personal pride to the four winds, Yitro attaches his fate to the G-d of Israel and to the nation that G-d loves. In the dead of winter, when we need it most, here comes Tu B’Shevat, the new year for trees. Wednesday night-Thursday is the 15th day of Shevat. Take a moment, contemplate the beauty of trees, and feel your own spiritual sap rising in your souls. On Tu B’Shevat all G-d’s world receives a dose of redemption!

Freedom from Slavery: The True Test of Faith
The Children of Israel Require Coaxing as They Take Their 1st Baby Steps in the Desert
Led and fed by daily miracles as they entered the desert en route to the promised land of Canaan, Israel experiences many seeming lapses of faith. Yet they are known as the generation of knowledge and existed in a spiritual reality far higher than any other generation. What does this teach us about the nature of faith? The nature of man?

Pharaoh & the 10 Plagues: What’s free will got to do with it?
The Myopic Pride Which Burns in Pharaoh’s Heart Proves to
be His Fatal Undoing
G-d and Moshe team up to put the screws to Pharaoh. If free will defines our humanity, then how could G-d harden Pharaoh’s heart, and divest him of his free will? Or was in necessary in order to impose justice in the world? Rabbi Richman has kicked off his speaking tour of America, and filling his ample shoes in the Temple Talk studio is his first-born son, Tzvi, a storehouse of Torah knowledge in his own right.

Get Ready for the 10 Plagues: “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet!”
Beginning the Long March from Exile & Servitude to Liberty & Redemption
Some people couldn’t see or feel G-d’s presence even if He came out and hit them over the head. Pharaoh, the absolute monarch of Egypt, is one of these people. In fact, it will take ten heavy hits to knock some recognition into Pharaoh’s head and his heart. Moses has been chosen to be the messenger, although he feels highly under-qualified. G-d, however, is determined that Moses will be the man who delivers Israel.
Rabbi Richman and Yitzchak Reuven express their sadness at the passing of Vendyl Jones, a passionate and compassionate spiritual giant of our generation. May his memory be for a blessing.

The Parshiot of the Exile are Days of Spiritual Rectification
“And There Arose a New King Who Knew Not Yosef:” Understanding the Dilemma of Denial
The essence of time is Torah itself. As we begin the Book of Exodus, Ya akov, Yosef and their entire generation pass away, and the people of Israel multiply mightily in the land of Egypt… and hunker down into the exile. What happened within one brief generation that made the Egyptians forget their debt of gratitude to Yosef? Rabbi Richman and Yitzchak Reuven feel that as usual, it’s a Jewish thing… responsibility always finds its way back to us.
