From the opening “And He called”  of the book of Leviticus to the closing words of this week’s concluding reading, G-d has been direct, open and honest with Israel. He sets out His program for us and, in the end, it is up to us, and only up to us, to decide whether we are going to get on board, or not.

Spending time with G-d in space, and sharing space with G-d in time. The Tabernacle is the appointed place and the three pilgrimage festivals the appointed times which G-d has commanded us, and by which we can walk through life with G-d.

Independence DayOpen your eyes, this IS the ge’ula  – this IS the promised redemption of Israel that is unfolding before us! Choose to be a part of it. Choose to help make it happen. We are a generation blessed by G-d’s overflowing loving kindness. We must not take it for granted. Warts and all, the state of Israel is His gift to His people, wrapped in miracles and presented with love. The gift belongs to all who embrace it. Yom Ha’atzma’ut Sameach  – Happy Independence Day, Israel!

“You shall not turn to the worthless idols, nor shall you make molten deities for yourselves.”  (Leviticus 19:4) Don’t fall prey to your own fears and weaknesses and begin shaping false gods to provide easy answers, and in essence become answerable to you. It is you who must shape your being and your destiny to G-d’s will, and by doing so, become answerable to G-d.
