Temple Talk is a weekly internet radio webcast with Rabbi Chaim Richman and Yitzchak Reuven of the Temple Institute.

This week features:

G-d is in His heaven, but Korach & his crowd want what’s His!

The Deadly Plague of Cynicism Sown by Korach Threatens to Destroy All of Israel!

KorachMeet Korach, the son of Yitzhar, the son of Kehat, the son of Levi: He’s a big-time negotiator, false healer and woman hater. He a master of the bluff and master of the proposition. He wraps himself in a cloak of decency and sure loves talking in the name of religion. Fortunately, Tzvi Richman is once again in the studio with Yitzchak Reuven, and his sober take on Korach’s  self serving rhetoric helps to keep the rest of us from getting swept away by Korach’s honey-tongued power grab. After last week’s kid-glove reception of the twelve spies, Moshe  employs a strong armed response to Korach’s  attempted coup, along with truth, righteousness and an appeal to the people’s better nature. Yes, it’s like the earth just opened and swallowed him up. He reached too high, was thrown back to the ground! Just past the debacle of the spies and now with Korach  in our cross-hairs, we welcome the new month of Tammuz  – a G-d given opportunity to invest all our resources in rectifying the sin of the spies.

In praise of women: They avoided the sin of the golden calf; they did not participate in the badmouthing of the land of Israel. And in parashat Korach, we learn how the wife of On ben Pelet  prevented her husband from taking part in the rebellion of Korach  and helped him to repent of his original intentions. Stand by your man? Stand by your woman!

Korach (Numbers 16:1-18:32)

Parashat Korach is read on Shabbat:
Tammuz 3, 5772/June 23, 2012

Five possessions did the Holy One, Blessed is he, acquire for Himself in His world, and they are: Torah, one possession; heaven and earth, one possession; Avraham, one possession; Yisra’el, one possession; the Holy Temple, one possession.
1) Torah is the set of His Divine decrees upon all created.
2) Heaven and earth are the entire world.
3) G-d’s Name is called upon Avraham.
4) G-d’s Name is called upon the nation of Yisra’el, for He is called “the G-d of Yisra’el.”
5) His Name is called upon the Temple as it says, “this house is called by Your Name.”
In summary, these five things are G-d’s possessions because they are fully in His domain; they are pertinent to G-d as the Deity; and they are unique in fulfilling that role.

A teaching from Rabbi Chaim of Volozhin. Ruach Chaim.

Any new novel idea and/or Torah idea, a student might consider as new to them, they should realize that it was taught to Moshe at Mt. Sinai directly from the mouth of HaShem. In fact, this is true today; whatever a person is learning at a present stage of their life it is being expressed by HaShem as well. Thus, David said, it is the Torah of my mouth that brings me to love for the Torah. It is then when David realized that he and HaShem recited the words of Torah together.
For it is when you walk with the Torah it will guide you and led you all the days of your life. Whenever a person is in doubt, one should seek how to proceed through the studying of the Torah. For within the Torah lies an answer. And if you stay true to the instructions of the Torah you will not stumble.

Temple Talk is a weekly internet radio webcast with Rabbi Chaim Richman and Yitzchak Reuven of the Temple Institute.

This week features:

Shelach: Sending the Spies: Why an’ what’s the reason for?

Too Many Choices, Too Many Voices, Too Many Spies Spoil the Mission!

SpiesAn innocent sneak preview into the soon to be conquered holy land of Israel turns into a debacle that reverberates throughout the centuries. Why were the spies sent into the land and why did they praise the land but despise their own selves? These questions, and many more, are asked by Tzvi Richman, filling in for his father, Rabbi Richman, who is currently in the USA teaching Torah, and Yitzchak Reuven. Was this a case of too much democracy? We witness the rise of the two spies, Yehoshua and Calev, who defied the the defeatists and would become the only men of their generation to enter the land thirty nine years later. Yehoshua certainly learned the lesson of the failed spy mission. We see this when he himself orders two spies to slip into Jericho. But have we ourselves learned the lesson? Are we committed to take the land and hold onto it, come what will?
