Calling All Motivated Hearts: Come and Build the Holy Temple!

The Suffering of King David and the Returning Light of Temple Consciousness

Covenant at Sinai
The month of Adar has arrived, and for most people that spells Purim joy, accompanied by lots of mirth. But just as Hashem’s name is hidden from the scroll of Esther, so too, there’s much more to the month of Adar than meets the eye. During Temple times, this month begins a period marked by intense preparation for bringing the Passover offering next month! Today as well, there are those that are busy trying to accomplish what hasn’t been done for a very long time… enabling the nation of Israel to once again bring the Pesach lamb. What motivates these people? What motivated those whose donated to the building of the Tabernacle, in this week’s Torah portion of Terumah? You’ve got to feel it… you’ve got to be obsessed with the Holy Temple. We learned from the best, like King David, who said “I will not allow myself sleep nor comfort until I find a place for G-d in this world.” Tune into this week’s memorable Temple Talk for a crash course… Temple Obsession 101

Israel’s 19th Knesset and Parashat Mishpatim: Everything is from Sinai

Covenant at Sinai
This is a week of covenants. As the members of Israel’s 19th Knesset are sworn in and pledge to serve the State of Israel and the Jewish people, this week’s Torah portion of Mishpatim  finds the people of Israel still standing at the foot of Mount Sinai, receiving the details of their obligations to G-d, and entering into a covenant with Him: “Moshe took the Book of the Covenant and read it within the earshot of the people, and they said, ‘Everything that Hashem has said, we will do, and we will obey!’ “

Is it coincidence that Israel’s new Knesset, representatives of Israeli law, takes its oath during the week in which the Torah emphasizes the entire nation’s oath to uphold Hashem’s law? We don’t believe in coincidence. As we’ve said before, the past isn’t even past. We’re still standing at Sinai and our covenant with the Almighty is still predicated on action – on fulfilling our role in this world.

The Perpetual Moment of the Mount Sinai Revelation

Yitro Finds the One G-d of Israel

See the Thunder
In the midst of thunder, lighting and visible blasts of the shofar, Israel stands at the foot of Mount Sinai in this week’s Torah portion of Yitro, heaven and earth meet, and the Torah became the heritage of not only every Jew, but every true spiritual seeker. Take, for example, Moshe’s  father-in-law Yitro, a heathen priest turned super-righteous Gentile. He demonstrates that the Torah is for everyone, not matter what your background. Tune into this week’s Temple Talk as Yitzchak Reuven and Rabbi Richman prepare for the Sinai revelation found in this week’s Torah reading: the source of every prophecy, every question, all wisdom and the cradle in which was nurtured even the unborn souls… it’s all part of the magnificent interface between mankind and the Divine.

Parashat Beshalach: The State of Israel and Life After Death

Four Groups by the Sea & the Israeli Elections: A Revealing, Futuristic Midrash

Hemingway Faulkner Pharaoh
Can you feel that ocean spray? We’re walking through the Sea of Reeds this week, in more ways than one. This week, as Israel reads the Torah portion of Beshalach  which includes the poetic and enigmatic Song of the Sea, Temple Talk hosts an Israel Election Day extravaganza. Yitzchak Reuven and Rabbi Richman find that it’s all been done before, it’s all been written in the book… but on the other hand, everything is new, and everything is being renewed. This Shabbat, the ‘Sabbath of Song,’ is also Tu B’Shevat  – the New Year for Trees, and for all human beings who wish to take advantage of the opportunity for growth. If you’re interested in the resurrection of the dead, fixing the tree of knowledge and how to eat from Heaven’s table, simply tune into this week’s edition of Temple Talk for a refreshing tour de force.

This week features:

Moses, the Mikveh, & the Amazing Sapphire Staff: A Midrash

G-d to Egypt & the Leaders of the World: It’s My Party, Ready or Not Here I Come

Hemingway Faulkner Pharaoh
In this remarkable edition of Temple Talk, Yitzchak Reuven and Rabbi Richman explore the vast dimensions of Parashat Bo, including the justice brought upon Egypt and the concept of Rosh Chodesh Nisan, and seamlessly apply these cosmic themes to our contemporary scene. In a brilliant literary stroke, they also invoke the great Hemingway and borrow his oft-quoted line, “the past isn’t dead – it’s not even past” to underscore the reality of this week’s Torah reading. There’s only one thing to add: it wasn’t Hemingway who said that, it was Faulkner. Oh well, if it’s not even past, then the misquote didn’t happen yet! This conundrum leads to endless possibilities in the space/time continuum. Our apologies to both gentlemen.
The Torah records that Moshe utilized his staff to bring about the plagues in Egypt. In an amazing analysis of some tantalizing Midrashim, our hosts discover that this was no magic wand or prop, but rather, a signal that evokes a life-changing lesson for us today, and an insight into the dynamic reality of G-d himself. This week’s Temple Talk is a collector’s item!

Israel’s Frankenstorm: Never Say ‘Too Much’ of a Good Thing

Egypt, Europe, America: Cycles of Jewish History

Rain Blessing
It’s the last week of the month of Tevet, and with the new month of Shevat  – whose theme is renewal and life – just around the corner, here in Israel we are experiencing the “perfect storm” of life-giving water. Water is life, Divine blessing, livelihood, Torah. This week’s edition of Temple Talk finds our hosts waxing eloquent on the rain in the Land of Israel and what it means for each and every one of us. The redemption from Egypt should mean something to each and every one of else as well, as the big show gets under way in this week’s Parashat Va’era… and the cycle of Jewish history in the land of Egypt begins to wind down. Is it beginning to wind down in Europe, and even in the USA, as well? Tune into this week’s dynamic Temple Talk as Yitzchak Reuven and Rabbi Richman connect the dots between the parasha, the weather, Kerry and Hagel, the struggle for Eretz Yisrael, and most importantly… the only reality, Hashem, the G-d of Israel.

The Descent into Egyptian Bondage: How Did it Come Down to This?

Exodus: We Know Where We’re Going, We Know Where We’re From

Back on the Chain Gang
What is the secret of maintaining Jewish identity in the throes of exile? Is it accurate or even fair to draw comparisons between the story of our forefathers in Egypt, and the contemporary experience of the Jewish diaspora? Evidently, Yitzchak Reuven and Rabbi Richman think so, as this week, as we begin the book of Exodus, they ponder the implications of Israel’s servitude in an Egypt that forgot its greatest national hero, Yosef, all too quickly.
